Fruit And Cancer Clearing Up Any Confusion

fruit and cancer

Fruit and cancer what is the relationship and why it’s important you understand it.

I wanted to share this article from An Oasis of Healing on fruit and cancer as there continues to be confusion surrounding this topic. Fruit is not the enemy, it contains fructose and does not spike insulin. Glucose is the culprit that spikes insulin production and needs to be limited.

Fruit has all the qualities that are attractive to a human being. For example, what kid’s birthday party doesn’t have balloons and the balloons look like colorful fruit. People have fruit baskets in their homes because they want the perception that their house is a healthy home. Some people even get fake fruit baskets to make it look healthy. The relationship between fruit and cancer is often misunderstood so let’s break it down and clarify it.

Fruit is fundamental to humanity. It was designed this way by nature for humans. People love the colors and the scents. You won’t see a dog come up and smell a banana and say yum. However, people do. We instinctively eat the banana.

Fruit is sweet, it’s colorful, it has nice shapes, it’s pleasant to us and good for us. Let’s go back to the days before hybrid fruit and of course GMO’s. This was when fruit was wildcrafted and they weren’t as sweet and as big.

It’s interesting to note that for animals that do eat fruit, like primates, they eat the whole thing. The eat the seeds, the rind, the covering and the core. They eat it all, the whole fruit. Conversely, humans don’t do this. Now, there is some fruit like cantaloupe where you can’t eat the covering, however, for the most part we don’t eat enough of the whole fruit.

The other key point is, fruit is easily digestible by humans which is good. However, when eating fruit and consuming other food with it, that other food takes precedence and the fruit gets set aside. Now, when fruit is just set aside, it ferments.  The fermenting fruit creates alcohols and wines in the belly and the person becomes a brewery which is not healthy.

If you are going to eat fruit, eat it by itself and don’t combine with other foods. The science to fruit goes even deeper as reported by Herbert M. Shelton and his book “Food Combining Made Easy”. He broke fruit down into categories and pairings listing the right and wrong combinations of fruits in terms of our digestion.

He called out melons should be eaten alone and with no other fruit. Again, in general, never eat any other kind of food with fruit. Have 1-2 pieces of fruit a day and eat sweet fruit with sweet fruit or non-sweet with non-sweet fruit. Eat pairings like a banana with grapes or oranges and apples.

Fruit And Cancer Different From Sugar And Cancer

When eating fruit alone, the benefit is that you will readily digest it and assimilate it and it’s a done deal. It will not linger in your digestive tract for very long. One of the current trends we see worldwide is offering fruit as a desert and this is worldwide and it’s really the worse thing to do. This is a guarantee for the fruit to ferment which will promote gas and bloating.

This trend needs to be reversed where fruit is given 30 minutes prior to a meal. It will digest by the time your meal is served and it will also help take away a person’s ravenous desire to eat everything on the menu. People are then more likely to eat less and feel better.

The following question is asked a lot at our healing center in regards to fruit and cancer. Can one eat fruit while trying to heal from cancer? We will answer it this way. Cancer feeds on sugar and more specifically glucose. When glucose is consumed, there is a spike in insulin production. A tumor has many insulin receptors on it and when glucose is consumed, the cancer cells will eat first over the healthy cells.

On the other hand, when fructose or fruit is consumed, it does not stimulate insulin production causing a spike. So, it will not “preferentially” feed the cancer, it will feed everything equally.

What we do at An Oasis Of Healing is teach people with cancer how to eat a ketogenic diet so they can get away from all carbs and glucose which starves the cancer. The ketogenic diet is for a specific period of time and when that cycle is up, a regular healthy diet is resumed where organic fruit is welcomed. Our healing center follows an integrative approach where many alternative treatments for cancer are used for the benefit of the person who has cancer.
